COALITION OF APPRAISERS IN NEVADA
As we start a new year I hope you all had a safe and happy holiday season and prosperous New Year. 2016 was a very busy year for appraisers and we expect 2017 to be more of the same as the local and national economies continue to recover.
During these busy times, it’s important that we stay informed regarding potential changes at the
legislative level that may affect our profession. CAN will continue to monitor bills and amendments on behalf of membership. To date, CAN is aware of one amendment that may affect our profession. More will be shared on this topic as information becomes available.
This year, CAN funded a customary and reasonable fee study that was approved by the NV Real Estate Division. The study is posted on the CAN website for all to see. AMCs who do not have a customary and reasonable fee study that complies with Dodd Frank are welcome to use this study, completed by CBER at UNLV. Visit our website to review and/or download a copy of the study.
CAN is a member of the Network of State Appraisals Organizations, along with 22 other states. The goal of the NSAO is for all “boots on the ground” appraisers to have a voice on the national level. Please join The Network and your fellow appraisers from around the country for the first ever national Question and Answer (Q&A) Webinar featuring representatives from The Appraisal Foundation (TAF) and the Appraisal Subcommittee (ASC). For more information about this event please go to the Meetings & Events page on our website.
Two of our board members, Mike Brunson & Jim Smith, after many years of service, are stepping down from the board. Mike is a founding member of CAN and has served in multiple roles, including President and most recently Treasurer, since CAN’s humble beginnings. Jim is also a founding member of CAN and served as the membership committee chair for 3 years.
Thank you to Mike and Jim for all your service and support of CAN over the past 7 years. Your presence on the board will be truly missed.
With Mike and Jim stepping down this opens up 2 board member positions! CAN is seeking nominees to fulfill to the positions currently open on the board. If you, or someone you know, are interested in serving, please submit a brief biography or recommendation to JimSmith@nvappraisers.org.
I would like to take this opportunity to invite all appraisers to our year end event on January 19th, 2017 at the Bonefish Grill, Town Square. Come ring in the New Year, see some old friends, and get the latest scoop on appraisal topics in Nevada. I hope to see you all there. For questions, comments, or concerns, I can be reached via email at: DanByrne@nvappraisers.org. To become a CAN member or supporter, please contribute at: www.nvappraisers.org/membership.
Happy New Year
Dan Bryne, CAN President
